Macy's, Inc. has named Los Angeles among its markets with greater hiring opportunities for Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Bluemercury, and its next nationwide hiring day lands Thursday, October 22. Michaels and Spirit Halloween are staffing up too. The catch: forecasters expect fewer seasonal jobs nationally than last year, so the people who apply in October get the shifts.

🚨 Macy's Hiring Days: October 22 and November 19

Macy's, Inc. announced its seasonal push on September 24, which was also the first of three nationwide hiring days. The two still ahead are Thursday, October 22, and Thursday, November 19. On those days you can apply in person at any Macy's, Bloomingdale's or Bluemercury store, plus select supply chain locations. The company says event times vary by store, so call your nearest location or check the posting before you drive.

Los Angeles shows up on the company's list of markets with greater hiring opportunities for all three brands. That means department stores from the Westside to the San Gabriel Valley, plus the smaller Bluemercury beauty shops. Store jobs are part-time. Fulfillment and distribution roles come in full- and part-time versions.

Who Else Is Staffing Up for the Holidays

Michaels announced more than 10,000 seasonal store jobs across the U.S. and Canada. Its in-store hiring day was September 12, but applications stay open at careers.michaels.com. Michaels says nearly half of last season's in-store seasonal jobs turned into permanent roles.

Several of the biggest seasonal employers, Amazon, Target, UPS and Kohl's among them, had not announced 2026 holiday headcounts as of this week. Their peak-season postings still appear locally this time of year, so search by name below instead of waiting for a press release.

Outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas reports that retailers added 461,500 seasonal jobs in the fourth quarter of 2025, the fewest since 2008. Its 2026 outlook projects about 450,000 this year. Retailers are leaning on automation and current staff, so the early applicants fill what's left. The address where you work sets the minimum, not where you live. Inside the City of Los Angeles the floor is $18.42 an hour as of July 1, per the city's Office of Wage Standards. The county's independent cities are a patchwork: some set their own local minimums, others follow California's $16.90 rate. That means the same brand can owe different floors at two malls a few miles apart. Treat these as floors, not going rates: plenty of seasonal postings start higher.
